From Zero is an audio learning app by TD Media. This page explains what the app and this website store, what they send, to whom, and why. The short version: your progress stays on your device and the app has no accounts. Data leaves your phone only to stream audio, to process a subscription, and, in the free version, to show advertising.

What the app stores on your device

• Your learning progress: completed stories, quiz results, review schedule, XP, streak, hearts.
• Your settings: interests, daily goal, reminder time, playback speed, languages.
• Stories you download for offline listening (Premium).
• A local log of app errors. It is only sent if you send it to us yourself (see Support).

This data is kept in the app's private storage. Android may include it in your Google account backup according to your device settings, so it can be restored when you reinstall. "Reset progress" in the Profile tab removes your progress; deleting the app removes all of it.

What leaves your device

• Audio streaming. The free English stories are part of the app. All other stories (every story in the paid courses, and all German and Spanish stories) are streamed from our file storage at Cloudflare R2 (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). Each request contains the file name and the connection data every internet request carries: your IP address and technical details such as the device type. We keep no logs of these requests and do not use them to identify you; Cloudflare processes them to deliver the file and to protect the service against abuse. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the app you use) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our interest in delivering it securely).
• Subscriptions. Purchases are handled by Google Play (Google Ireland Limited). To confirm that your subscription is active, the purchase token and a random app user ID are processed by RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) on our behalf. We receive neither your name nor your payment details. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
• Advertising (free version only). The free version shows advertising from Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited): a banner above the tab bar, a full-screen advertisement after some quizzes, and, only if you choose it, a video to refill your hearts. The Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically processes your IP address (which can be used to estimate your approximate location), your interactions with the app and the ads (for example app launches, taps and video views), diagnostic information (for example app launch time), your advertising ID and an app set ID. Google uses this for delivering and measuring advertising and for fraud prevention; details are in Google's privacy policy. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for your choice before any advertisement is loaded. Personalised advertising is used only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG); without it, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads based on our legitimate interest in financing the free version (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under Profile > Ad privacy options (shown in these regions), and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in the Android settings. Premium removes all advertising.
• Support. "Report a problem" and "Send diagnostics" open your e-mail app with a prepared message; "Send diagnostics" adds the app version, the Android version and the recent entries of the local error log. Nothing is sent until you send the e-mail yourself. We use your message and your e-mail address only to answer you and to fix the problem (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
• Sharing. When you share a fact card, the image is handed to the app you pick. Nothing is sent to us.
• Sources. Tapping a source opens the publisher's website in your browser.

The app does not use analytics or crash-reporting services, does not access your contacts, location, camera or microphone, and does not sell data. If we add crash reporting in the future, this page will say so first.

Notifications

The daily reminder, including the "on this day" headline it shows, is created on your device from the app's built-in content. No push service and no server is involved. You can turn it off in the Profile tab or in the Android settings at any time.

This website

tdmedia-apps.com is served by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). When you open a page, Cloudflare processes your IP address and the usual request data (the address of the page, the time, your browser type) to deliver the page and to protect the site against attacks. This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking and loads nothing from other providers: fonts and images come from this website itself. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our interest in a secure, working website).

Transfers outside the EU

Cloudflare, Google and RevenueCat may process data in the USA. Such transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified under it, and otherwise on the EU standard contractual clauses.

How long data is kept

Data on your device stays until you reset it, delete your downloads or delete the app. E-mails to support are deleted once your request is settled, unless the law requires us to keep them longer. Google, Cloudflare and RevenueCat keep data according to their own policies.

Children

From Zero is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can withdraw a consent at any time with effect for the future. Because we hold no account data about you, there is usually nothing on our side to export or delete; your data lives on your device and in your Google account backup, both under your control. To exercise a right, write to the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen. We do not make automated decisions about you; if you consent to personalised ads, Google uses profiling to choose them.
